Not blogging much

Man, I really have a lot of respect for all of these food and DIY bloggers that I follow because it is so difficult keeping up with these things. Most of the time I don’t feel like I have anything interesting enough to tell the internet world in the form of a blog. As a result, I have reserved myself to mostly tweeting for now. I find it much easier and more manageable to distribute job opportunities and science nuggets to a broader audience that way.

For the few people who actually take the time to read this, I’ll provide a few life updates (which most people already know from other parts of my site):

  1. I taught field camp during summer 2021 for Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado for 6-weeks. I really enjoyed my time in Grand Junction and getting to know the students at a new university.
  2. I successfully defended my dissertation in August 2021, passing unconditionally!! I was able to bask in this amazing feeling for quite a while. I now only accept being called “Dr. Atkins” by my family 🙂
  3. I started my position as a hydrologist with USGS a few short weeks later and have been working on lots of different projects with scientists all around the country!

This might be my last blog for a while, but who knows! Maybe I’ll get the motivation to blog again in the near future. For now, I’ll leave you with the photo below, my mountain bike among the sandstone cliffs near Moab, UT. I seized an opportunity to mountain bike with a group of 40+ women recently and was reenergized by all of my interactions. We all brought something unique to the group and the diversity of everyone’s experiences in a male-dominated sport made me excited for a career as a woman in science! Cheers!
